Dr. Belsley's Philosophy of Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

In my practice, I perform breast lifts using incisions that result in a “lollipop” shaped scars. With good care and a bit of luck, these incisions heal well and the scars are difficult to see from a distance. Nevertheless, a woman who undergoes a cosmetic breast lift must be prepared for scars that are visible. This is one example of a “trade-off” in plastic surgery and of course, there are many others. This is one, however, that I feel is more than worthwhile in appropriate candidates.

Dr. Belsley's Philosophy of Breast Augmentation

When it comes to deciding what approximate breast size you wish to achieve, the best advice I can give you is that you should be guided by your physical frame.  Indeed, you may in fact be limited by it.  In my practice, I select implants based upon your chest measurements, the quality of your breast skin and the size of your breasts prior to surgery.

I perform breast augmentation through a peri-areolar or inframammary approach and I place that vast majority of implants at least partially beneath the pectoralis muscle.  My patients are welcome to select either saline or silicone filled breast implants.  Silicone filled implants can in some cases achieve a more natural feel and may be a particularly attractive option for women with less breast tissue prior to surgery.

Neck Lift Aesthetic Description

Everyone’s neck is different.  My goal when performing a neck lift is to restore the appearance of an individual’s neck to what it looked like when you were happiest with it.

I don’t remove glands, because I feel that the risks of these maneuvers outweigh the benefits.  I also don’t perform neck lifts without also making short scar face lift incisions, because I think that some of the skin that is sagging in the neck belongs in the lower part of the face.  I make facial incisions to reposition that sagging skin to its appropriate location.

The arch of the brow

I’ve noticed that what we consider a youthful brow today is very different from what was considered youthful even one and certainly two generations ago. Aesthetically pleasing women’s brows are now closer to the eye and therefore lower on the brow bone than they were in the past. The arch of the brow is closer to the outer corner of the eye than it was before.

Facial Liposuction

In order to be a candidate for liposuction of the face and neck without the need for skin removal at the same time, you have to have good elasticity in your skin so that it will shrink down to the new neck contour without sagging. Some individuals are fortunate in that they meet this criteria, but most do require removal of skin and therefore longer incisions.
